Harriet Thomas Weekes: The Right to Opacity
February 27 @ 8:00 am - October 3 @ 5:00 pm

Harriet Thomas Weekes: The Right to Opacity at The Barbados Museum & Historical Society. Feb 27th – Oct 3rd.
“Announcing the exhibition Harriet Thomas Weekes: The Right to Opacity, which engages two rare photographic records of a Black Barbadian woman who lived from enslavement into legal freedom (1815–1897).
Rather than seeking to tell her story in full, this exhibition embraces what cannot be fully known, honouring Harriet without reducing her to the limits of the colonial archive.
Through photographs, documents, and community voices, visitors are invited into a space of listening, reflection, and shared meaning-making, where presence matters more than completeness.”
