The Barbados Photographic Society’s first exhibition of 2026, entitled “Black and White Moments,” opened on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, at the Caribbean Brushstrokes Gallery. More than 200 attendees, including the Honourable Chief Justice of Barbados and the Ambassadors of Cuba and Argentina, gathered to experience a thoughtfully curated exhibition, featuring the work of 35 Barbados-based photographers. This collection showcased an impressive range of outstanding black-and-white photography across multiple genres.
The evening opened with introductory remarks from the gallery owner, Ms Rae Skinner, who then gave way to a short address from the President of the Barbados Photographic Society, Mr Bradley Benskin. However, the featured speaker of the night would be acclaimed author and poet, Mrs Denise Haynes, who delivered the thoughtful keynote address to patrons.

Guests were free to mingle afterwards, take in the beautiful images, and converse with the photographers who were more than happy to share their craft. Of course, what is any party without a bit of refreshment? Those gathered were treated to specially crafted signature cocktails (courtesy of the West Indies Rum Distillery), along with a tasty selection of finger foods, which were all well received. Feedback suggested that guests were deeply impressed by the quality of the work and the artists’ dedication to their craft.

On a personal note, it was deeply rewarding to witness the growth of each photographer, both the seasoned veterans and emerging talents. Each image reflects a thoughtful measure of visual composition as well as storytelling, encouraging viewers to look further.
The Black and White Moments Exhibition is on display now at the gallery located in Pelican Village, Bridgetown, until May 9th, 2026.
